Content Management Systems (CMS) enable web site owners and operators to add and or change information that is presented on their web site.

CMS Overview: there are a large number CMS products on the market and they fall into two major groups the open source group and the purchase software group.

In the typical purchase software example a user pays for a CMS tool, installs and configures the tool for their web site needs. These products can cost from a few hundred to several thousand dollars   depending of the provider   and customers needs.

Open source products have no up front purchase price but does require installation and configuration like the purchase product.

Both options will require support at some time.

Purchase software normally comes with one year of support, each following year requiring the user to purchase annual support.

Open source CMS products support can be done by the user, obtained from internet forums, emails to the open source group or can be purchased from third party providers.

Each user must balance their budget with their ability to install, operate and support the CMS tool they select.
